About

The International Conference of Safety in Mines Research Institutes was first held 1931 and has a long history as one of the oldest, if not the oldest, global mining health conferences.

The Conference has been held all over the world including Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, China, India, Poland, Romania, South Africa, the UK, and the USA. ICSMRI has historically been held roughly every two years, but with the downturn this conference hasn’t been held since 2015 in Canada.

The conference was last held in Australia in 2005.

The 2021 Conference is hosted and organised by the Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre within The University of Queensland's Sustainable Minerals Institute.

The Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre (MISHC) conducts research in occupational safety and health, risk management, and human factors, and provides consultancy and professional development programs to industry. It is one of six research centres and an international centre of excellence in Chile which comprise the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI).
